The starting salary package for this position is £62,224 GBP per annum (approx. $77,073 USD) including all allowances

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the Gulf of Guinea programme:

Since 2020, MAG projects aim to enhance regional security by reducing at-risk, illicitly proliferated, or indiscriminately used of arms. In collaborating with ECOWAS Commission, this is achieved by strengthening the organisational and operational capacities of National Commission on SALW and national security sector institutions in the safe Management and Destruction of Weapons and Ammunition in those coastal countries like Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Togo.

About the role:

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be responsible for the delivery, effective management, monitoring and evaluation of projects within the Gulf of Guinea programmes. You will also provide strategic leadership and representation for MAG within the region and maintain robust oversight of all activities to ensure quality delivery of MAG’s activities and strategic positioning

Your teams, which are spread across several countries with significant support from the regional office, are dynamic and well-versed in their respective contexts. You will provide strategic leadership, compassionate management and ensure regional consistency. To deal with complex but rewarding professional situations, patience and a good sense of humour will be required.

About you:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of strategically managing, developing and supporting projects including, implementation, management, monitoring and evaluation, and contract compliance. Expertise in the development of new business, including proposal development, networking and contract negotiations is required. You will possess experience of having developed successful relationships and negotiated with donors, government and regional bodies, other NGOs and local partners. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are important for this role as you will need to build effective relationships and develop networks with relevant stakeholders. Strong writing skills to be able to write proposals, budgets and reports are essential. The successful candidate will also have effective financial management skills, proven ability to motivate and develop a team, and a proactive, flexible and positive approach to work. Knowledge and understanding of relevant institutional donors (EU, UN, government departments…) are required. In addition, you must be able and willing to undertake frequent travel within the region, to represent MAG at the highest level, to work independently and to make decisions with limited supervision.

Fluency in English and French is required
